Year 10 & 11 Health & Social Studies

BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in Health and Social Care

The course comprises of 3 components which will be taught during the course of years 10 and 11, with assessment being carried out at the end of each component.

Assessment

Component 1: Human Lifespan Development

Learning Aim A: Understand human growth and development across life stages and the factors that affect it.  The following will be covered:

  • Human growth and development across life stages
  • Factors affecting growth and development

Learning Aim B: Investigate how individuals deal with life events.  The following will be covered:

  • Different types of life event
  • Coping with change caused by life events 

Internally assessed with 2 assignments forming the final mark. 

Component 2: Health and Social Care Services and Values

Learning Aim A: Understand the different types of health and social care services and barriers to accessing them.  The following will be covered:

  • Health and social care services
  • Barriers to accessing services

Learning Aim B: Demonstrate care values and review own practice.  The following will be covered:

  • Care values
  • Reviewing own application of care values

Internally assessed with 2 assignments forming the final mark.

Component 3: Health and wellbeing

Learning Aim A: Factors that affect health and wellbeing.  The following will be covered:

  • Factors affecting and wellbeing

Learning Aim B:  Interpreting health indicators

  • Physiological indicators
  • Lifestyle indicators

Learning Aim C: Person-centred health and wellbeing improvement plans

  • Health and wellbeing improvement plans
  • Obstacles to implementing plans

This component builds upon work that students complete in components 1 and 2.  It is externally assessed with exam windows of January and June, there is an opportunity for ONE resit
