Design & Technology

Why Study Design & Technology?

By the end of their time at Soham Village College, we would like our students to be well rounded individuals who take an interest in the world around them and appreciate that product design is also about environmental impacts and design choices.  We aim to ensure that all students build up a large range of practical skills and a knowledge of materials, tools and processes that go along with this.  Students will also develop skills in analysis, evaluation and working with a user or client.  We make learning fun and engaging and students love manufacturing products in a creative environment.

Students who pursue Design and Technology at KS4 learn to successfully create detailed specifications for their own designs which they develop with a range of modelling skills (including CAD).  Students are taught how to manufacture high quality products and have a clear idea of how to critically evaluate their design decisions whilst enjoying the process of solving problems with their hands.

It is our ambition in Design & Technology that students understand that being a designer is much more than just practical and enjoy learning about the processes involved.  We want students to leave school equipped with a passion or enthusiasm for the subject which may inform their post 16 options.
