‘Devising’ Creating

Drama using techniques and approaches based on the theme of “Life repeating itself”.  Practitioners including Forced Entertainment, Frantic Assembly and Complicite are introduced with a focus upon creating meaning from movement.  References are made to skills and approaches used for GCSE Drama.

Year 8 assessment focusing on collaboration and performance skills.  (October)

'DNA’ – Bringing texts to life 

A practical study of “DNA” by Dennis Kelly.  The play  looks at issues surrounding friendships and gangs telling the story of a group of teenagers who make a big mistake.  Students are encouraged to experiment with staging and interpreting key scenes developing rounded and believable characters

‘Mime' – Physical Theatre in practice

During this unit students look at the origins and development of mask and mime. There is a focus upon how to make effective and memorable mask and mimed performance work for an audience. 

Devising marked assessment.

‘Shakespeare’

During this unit students will gain an appreciation of performance skills involved in the staging, directing and performing a piece of Elizabethan theatre.

‘Monologues and Duologues’

Students will experiment with a range of contemporary monologues and duologues.  This will enable students to find practical solutions to staging and performing from script.
