BTEC ICT Curriculum

Why study BTEC Digital Information Technology?

“The digital sector is a major source of employment in the UK. Around 1.46 million people work in digital companies and there are around 45,000 digital jobs advertised at any one time. Digital skills span all industries and many jobs in the UK today require employees to have a good level of digital literacy.”

This course gives students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in a practical environment. They will investigate the use and purpose of the different user interfaces that are used in digital devices today. There will be plenty of opportunity for creative work which will be demonstrated through the design and creation of a touch screen user interface where students will learn about different design principles that can be used to design effective user interfaces.

Students will learn about different data manipulation tools that can be used to change the way that data is presented. They will learn the skills on how to effectively present data in a dashboard through graphs and charts allowing organisations to make effective decisions.

Students will explore how the developments in technology over recent years have enabled organisations to communicate and collaborate more effectively. For example, the use of cloud-based systems, video conferencing software and website development. You will develop an understanding of what a virtual work environment is and how cloud technologies allow remote teams to work together more effectively. Cybercrime is an increasing threat – students will understand the different types of threats and how to reduce the risks. They will also investigate cyber security aspects of technology that can be related to the increased use of social media platforms.

Through this qualification you will develop a broad range of practical skills used in digital sectors.
