Safeguarding

At Soham Village College the safeguarding and promoting the well-being of our students is at the heart of everything we do.

Where a child is suffering significant harm, or is likely to do so, we have a legal duty to take action to protect that child. We also have a duty to promote the welfare of a child in need of additional support, even if they are not suffering harm or are at immediate risk.

Soham Village College's staff form part of the wider safeguarding system for children and we work with social care, the police, health services and other services to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.  To view the school's safeguarding and child protection policy, including information on PREVENT, please click here.

Miss M Wilcox, Assistant Head, is the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead and there is a dedicated safeguarding team within the school. The team provide support to staff members to carry out their safeguarding duties and liaise closely with other services such as children’s social care.

If you would like to contact the school's safeguarding team please email: CP@soham-college.org.uk or telephone 01353 724100.

Prevent

Soham Village College is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its pupils. As a school we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is as important as safeguarding against any other vulnerability.

All staff are expected to uphold and promote the fundamental principles of British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We believe that children should be given the opportunity to explore diversity and understand Britain as a multi-cultural society; everyone should be treated with respect whatever their race, gender, sexuality, religious belief, special need, or disability.  As part of our commitment to safeguarding and child protection we fully support the Government's Prevent Strategy.

All staff and governors have had PREVENT training and are fully aware of the procedures in school and how to refer concerns to the Prevent Lead.
