English as an Additional Language

The Portal regularly monitors and supports students for whom English is a second or additional language:

We provide morning interventions for targeted KS3 students to improve reading, spelling and comprehension.

English language teaching at all levels of English acquisition as well as cross curriculum support, is given to selected students both in the classroom and during regular withdrawal sessions.

Access to a translator at meetings and parents' evenings is available on request and translation of key correspondence for the Polish community can be accommodated  (Mrs Trubshaw is available in the Portal until 10.45am and then in Student Services from Midday)

In KS4 we deliver an IGCSE in English as a second language which develops English language skills for those students whom it would benefit at 16+.

Together with the MFL department we support students towards a GCSE in their home language where possible.

The Portal provides a lunchtime homework club and social support area.
