Debating Society Showcase Talent to MP

Each year, Lucy Frazer MP holds a debating competition for schools in East Cambridgeshire. Soham Village College’s Debating Society gives students the chance to develop their skills in oratory and eight students from Years 9-11 were chosen to demonstrate these skills in front of Lucy Frazer. They prepared by researching their given topic and formulating their arguments. During the debate, they each demonstrated their views through three minute speeches, with students on the opposing side having the chance to challenge their ideas. Lucy Frazer commended them on their emotive arguments, thoughtful points of interest and how they engaged their audience whilst speaking.

Two finalists were chosen to represent the school in the next round at parliament where they will debate with other local schools.

Julie MacIntyre, Deputy Head, said, “As always, it was a pleasure to chair this debate and see how our students presented their ideas so confidently. We wish them all the best for in the finals in London.”
