This unit will show you how society has looked on people with disabilites in the past. Earlier attitudes have shaped the way today's society looks at people with disabilities. You will learn about the many self-help groups that have grown out of the need of people with disabilities to feel valued and to have their independence. You will begin to understand how the various movements and campaigns over the years have helped develop a different attitude towards people with disabilities, and how they have encouraged positive acceptance and inclusion. You may have experienced this in your own school, through anti-bullying policies and the inclusion of students with physical and learning disabilities.
